Good Morning,

my name is Renzo and I’m the Captain of this beautiful Boat that will take you on a lovely trip for around 4/5 hours ( from 5pm until sunset) to admire the lagoon, tasting Venetian cicchetti ( small Italian snacks) and excellent wines from our land, this is a unique opportunity that you have never experienced before…

The journey I’m going to take you on, it won’t be the classic tourist journey, but it’ll be a trip around the lagoon as we Venetian’s take .

We Depart from Campalto ( Passo Campalto) we will be passing beside the Island of Campalto, sailing along the coast of Fondamenta Nove, then passing beside the Arsenale and Castello where, if you’d like , we could stop and drink a very good aperitif in our friend’s Bacaro ( bar) which is well known in the whole Sestiere (Area) ,  we could also take a walk to Sant’ Elena’s gardens from where you can see the San Marco basin ( which is the waterfront in Venice).

Continuing our trip we will be passing beside the island of La Certosa and Le Vignole, where the Trattoria Alle Vignole is a MUST for Venetians.

Another typical place to stop is the island of Sant’ Erasmo and its famous “bacan” the venetian’s beach, where you can swim in the sea if you wish to, all this interspersed by excellent cicchetti and excellent chilled prosecco.

Campalto Island: it was one of the 8 anti-aircraft defences for the Town during the Serenissima, then military installations during the Second World War.

Fondamenta Nove: they are situated in the middle between the Sestiere di Canareggio and Castello, these are long Fondamenta on the Northern part of the Town built between 1500 and 1600 DC.

Arsenale: It’s an old complex of shipyards, it used to be the heart of the Venetian shipping industry and it’s linked to the most flourishing period of the Serenissima, thanks to imposing ships that were built here, the Republic of Venice managed to fight against the Ottomans in the Aegean sea and conquer the routes to the North of Europe.

Isola della Certosa : This was the preferential pathway to the lagoon and the City.

Around the YR 1200 it became the headquarters of the Augustinian community and then the Certosini’s.

But in YR 1570 plague ( La Peste) arrived on the island, and afterwards there was a radical change and it became militarised by Napoleon. Now is reclaimed and renovated and is part of the City with its beautiful gardens and the Lagoons Natural Park.

Sant’ Erasmo:  still has a strong agricultural tradition and its few inhabitants left continue to pursue the tradition and maintaining this green oasis, this is the only island that manages to escape the mass tourism that invades Venice and the other islands.

On this island you will also see the Massimiliana Tower that was part of the original defence system of the Venetian lagoon. It became then a French fortified town and afterwards it came under the Austrian’s with Massimiliano Giuseppe d’Austria-Este. Completed in YR 1844 , later abandoned until  the late 90’s, it is now restored and open to the public only on specific days. This beautiful Tower overlooks the beach of Sant’Erasmo.
